Washington, Mar 29, 2007 -  Today, Congressman John Shadegg (R-AZ) issued the following statement regarding the passage of the Democrat majority’s budget resolution:

“This budget enacts the largest tax increase in American history, continues the explosive growth in Federal spending and does absolutely nothing to rein in out-of-control entitlement programs.

“The tax increase totals $392.5 billion over five years, which translates into $2,701 in additional taxes for the average taxpayer in Arizona. We cannot sustain strong economic growth throughout Arizona and nationwide with this massive, unnecessary and punitive tax hike. Virtually every American who already pays taxes will pay more.

“The ‘investor class’ will pay higher taxes on personal income, capital gains and dividends. Families will pay more due to an increase in the marriage penalty and a reduction in the child tax credit. The majority even went so far as to raise the death tax, which forces small business owners, farmers and families to sell their assets to pay for the additional tax burden imposed by the government. Mourning families experience enough pain without having to settle up with the IRS.”

“The American people have met the new Democrat majority; it’s the same as the old Democrat majority.”
